Development for the next-generation Nissan Versa is evidently underway, judging by this teaser sketch released today by the Japanese automaker. With swoopier styling and an arched roof, the next-gen Versa may help retain interest in the subcompact car. Nisan has also confirmed that the new Versa will be sold in North America.
The current Nissan Versa hit U.S. showrooms in 2006, with the sedan variant following in 2007. The 2011 model carries a $10,740 base price. Both cars are currently powered by a choice of a 1.6- or 1.8-liter engines worth 107 and 122 horsepower, respectively. Nissan has sold 76,736 Versas through September 2010, an increase of 20.4 percent year-over-year and significantly larger volume than Honda's Fit (40,936) and Toyota's Yaris (31,793).
